Project Seahorse is an international movement including biologists, specialists, and professionals whose main aim is the preservation of seahorses in the world while respecting human needs. They put into effect structures for fishing limitation and propose alternative activities for local populations feeding needs. They mainly work in the following countries: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Philippine, Portugal, U.K, and the USA. Project Seahorse intends to develop its activities in South Africa, and Vietnam, and is in close relations with other countries.
An international and agreed upon Convention
CITES was created aiming at seahorses preservation.
One has to remember that seahorses are fished by tons for their supposed medical virtues in Asiatic medicine. Besides, some populations or tourists eat them raw out of exotic taste. Dried seahorses are sold as trinkets. It is time to stop all that!!!
